Siyavula supports the teaching cycle

During each term, you can use Siyavula to teach, revise, consolidate and assess your learners' understanding and knowledge. Take a look at how you can get the most of Siyavula all year round.

3 Steps to get your year off to a great start.

Set a baseline assessment at the start of the year

Knowing what learners already know is vital for teaching. It makes it easy to tailor instruction and activities to fill their knowledge gaps. Use one of our ready-made baselines from our Assessment Library, or make your own.

Get learners to set mastery goals

With Siyavula’s goal-setting widget, learners can set weekly targets based on the results they want to achieve. This builds agency and helps them to steadily build skills and confidence at their own pace, in their own time.

Link parents to support teaching

The secret to Maths and Science confidence is Siyavula time! Encourage parents to link to their child's Siyavula account to monitor their progress. With real-time insights into their child’s activity, a parent's support at home reinforces classwork.

Using Siyavula as part of your
teaching cycle
all year round

1. Activate prior knowledge

Help learners to make connections between what they already know and what’s new. Set revision content that activates prior knowledge and promotes active recall.

Here are easy ways to do this on Siyavula:

  • Set a section for learners to revise using Mastery Practice, or
  • Select a few key questions for students to practise

2. Teach new content

Use Siyavula's Question Bank in your daily lessons and homework. Point learners to specific questions that reinforce topics taught in class, helping them to master key concepts before the next lesson.

For your lesson:

  • Source quality questions from our Question Bank as worked examples
  • Select Variable questions to guide an "I do, we do, you do" lesson
  • Work through auto-marked Interactive Exercises from our Online Textbooks

For homework:

  • Set specific questions based on concepts covered in class that day

3. Consolidation practice

The curriculum needs you to move on, but learning takes time. Siyavula’s got your back! Built on proven learning science, Mastery Practice questions are spaced out over time, interleaved within a topic, and adapt in difficulty to help every learner achieve mastery.

  • Assign Mastery Practice to consolidate the topic you've just taught in class
  • Set questions from older topics for learners to practice retrieval and build lasting knowledge
4. Check understanding

Our powerful assessment tools show you what your learners know and where they need help. Choose each question yourself, or let our engine deliver exercises for the topic you’re covering. Then gain targeted insights from our automated reports.

  • Gain insights on which learners need extra help
  • View results per question to pinpoint problem areas for the whole class
Identify gaps and remediate

Siyavula’s teacher tools help to quickly identify and address knowledge gaps ensuring that each learner builds a solid foundation.

Our Question Reports provide data to inform - and personalise - your teaching. Catch blind spots in understanding early or push those who are capable of more.

  • Analyse learner performance against particular questions to check understanding
  • Monitor practice performance for a group or zoom in to view individual mastery
  • Track completion and performance for all work assigned to a group or learner
  • Oversee all subject activity to support your learning team

Bringing it all together at the end of the year

Get exam-ready!

Simulate the exam experience with real past papers for Maths and Physical Sciences. Students can practise answering exam-style questions. Our test papers come complete with a marking guideline so learners can assess their own readiness.

  • Revision cements concepts in long-term memory
  • Learners get familiar with question styles
  • Builds learner confidence in preparation for exams
